Photobiomodulation & Syntonic Light Therapy
Harnessing the Power of Light for Brain & Eye Health
What if you could use the energy of light to reduce inflammation, improve cellular health, and calm your nervous system? Photobiomodulation (PBM) and Syntonic Light Therapy are two cutting-edge, non-invasive therapies that do just that. At Brain Vision Institute, we use these advanced light-based technologies to support brain health, treat conditions like dry eye and migraines, and enhance your overall vitality.

A Drug-Free Approach to Age-Related Challenges
As we age, we can develop a host of issues, from chronic dry eye and migraines to increased stress and anxiety. Often, the only solutions offered are medications with a long list of side effects. But what if there was a way to support your body’s own healing processes, naturally and non-invasively?
Are you looking for a drug-free solution for any of the following?
- Chronic dry eye that hasn’t responded to drops
- Migraines or persistent headaches
- Sensitivity to light
- High levels of stress or anxiety
- A desire to proactively support your brain health and cognitive function
- A non-invasive way to reduce inflammation throughout your body
Light therapy offers a safe, effective, and scientifically-backed approach to addressing these common age-related concerns.
Recharging Your Cells and Rebalancing Your Nervous System
Light is a form of energy, and different wavelengths of light have different effects on the body. PBM and Syntonics use this principle to create profound physiological changes.
1. Photobiomodulation (PBM): The Cellular Recharging Station
PBM uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate the mitochondria — the “powerhouses” of your cells. This process has several key benefits:
- Reduces Inflammation: PBM is a powerful anti-inflammatory, which is critical for treating conditions like dry eye and reducing the chronic inflammation associated with aging and neurodegenerative disease.
- Increases Cellular Energy (ATP): By boosting mitochondrial function, PBM increases the production of ATP, the energy currency of your cells — helping cells repair themselves and function more efficiently.
- Improves Blood Flow: PBM stimulates the formation of new capillaries, improving circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues.
2. Syntonic Light Therapy: Rebalancing the Autonomic Nervous System
Your autonomic nervous system controls all of your body’s “autopilot” functions, like heart rate, digestion, and your stress response. It has two branches: the sympathetic (“fight or flight”) and the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”). In our modern, high-stress world, most people are stuck in a state of sympathetic overdrive.
Syntonics uses specific frequencies of colored light, viewed through the eyes, to gently guide the autonomic nervous system back into a state of balance. For example, certain shades of blue and green can calm the sympathetic system, reducing stress and anxiety, while other shades can stimulate the parasympathetic system.
A Personalized Protocol for Your Unique Needs
We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. We design a light therapy protocol that is tailored to your specific health goals.
The Comprehensive Brain-Visual Evaluation
1
We start with a detailed assessment of your eye health, neurological function, and overall wellness goals. This may include a visual field test, an assessment of your autonomic nervous system balance, and advanced diagnostics for dry eye.
Your Custom Light Therapy Protocol
2
Based on your evaluation, we will recommend a specific protocol:
- For Dry Eye: We may use PBM to reduce inflammation in the meibomian glands and improve their function.
- For Brain Health: We may use a combination of PBM to improve cellular energy in the brain and Syntonics to reduce stress and balance the nervous system.
- For Migraines: We may use specific Syntonic frequencies that have been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.
Comfortable, In-Office Treatments
3
Your light therapy sessions are simple, comfortable, and relaxing. You’ll simply sit in a comfortable chair while the PBM device is placed over your eyes, or look into the Syntonics instrument for a few minutes. A typical course of treatment involves a series of sessions over several weeks.
Finding Relief and Vitality
Your Questions, Answered
Is this safe? Are there any side effects?
Both PBM and Syntonics have an excellent safety profile and are very well-tolerated. They are non-invasive and drug-free. The most common side effect is a feeling of relaxation.
How is this different from the red light therapy I see advertised online?
While based on similar principles, our PBM devices are medical-grade and have been cleared by the FDA for specific applications. Our protocols are also administered by trained professionals based on a comprehensive evaluation, which is very different from using an at-home device.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the individual and the condition being treated. A typical protocol for dry eye or stress might involve 10-20 sessions. We will outline your recommended treatment plan after your initial evaluation.
Is this a cure?
For some conditions, like dry eye, light therapy can provide long-lasting relief. For others, like supporting brain health, it is an ongoing wellness strategy. Our goal is to improve your function and quality of life.
